I am Sonokeeper, writer for Grim Fate Comics! My ancient username actually matches that, but my display name is stuck as Fire32. :P Also, Bobbydando == Eldrik Aethervial, Bobbydando is just his HF account name.

Are you interested in supporting the comic and/or seeing next week's comic today? Check out our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/GrimFateComics to see the full-sized, HD pages, participate in the monthly bonus comic idea submission / voting, and more!

Note: Page numbers jump from 51->55 because we added 3 pages between 35 and 36. Our patrons voted to extend the Safi scene in place of a regular Grim Mini back in March.

@brakstar:

There will be more tight vore in this comic, although there will be other stuff as well. Issue #1, Plant Food, is going to run for over 120 pages. :D

I'll be making a gallery on g.e for the monthly mini comics as well once the second one is in. Both patreon-decided mini-comics were heavy oviposition, but there was a unanimous vote in favor of my "not three in a row" rule (some are even pushing for a stricter "not two in a row"), so next month's mini comic will not involve ovi. Someone suggested a tight vore concept, maybe it'll win the August vote (It fared pretty well in the July vote)?.

imercenary you obviously don't pay a lot of attention to QnA comic pages at all then, cause the QnA have a lot of the answers you are looking for. the pace of a long comic is meant to be slow and drawn out. Not all comics are going to be 30-40 pages and done.

Well.. although the Q&A comics*** do delve more into the background of some of these characters, I think Plant Food can stand on its own.

The main comic makes it clear that:
> Rika & Safi & Amber & Katarina were on the crashed airship.
> The airship crashed into some kind of horror jungle.
> Rika & Safi want to regroup with Amber and escape the jungle
>> Rika can sense location of something in Amber's bag.
> Katarina has something against the others that were on the airship. Murderously so.
> Juniper was not on the ship. She's been trying to find her lost aunt. Both she and her aunt are botanists.
> The monster plants want to vore/oviposition/etc these women.
> The women do not want to be eaten/stuffed with eggs/etc.
> Some mysterious entities are watching this from afar.

There is good deal more that can be inferred from the first 40+ pages, but the above is outright stated/shown and I think it is enough to follow the comic thus far. We don't the whole background, but we know the immediate desires of the characters and the gist of how everyone relates to everyone else. The only exceptions are Sylvia/Saundra - they've been inferred to also be from the ship but that's not quite explicitly stated (yet). Also, Larkane is right that this is a long comic.

***The Q&A comics are mostly safe for work. I've considered adding all of them to the end of this gallery (so it would be "All current main comic pages" followed by "All current Q&A pages") but I'm not sure if people would find having to find each week's continuation somewhere in the middle of the gallery annoying or not.

This is not a spinoff. The QnA they are referring to starts http://grimfatecomics-qa.tumblr.com/post/146882200753/hello-im-sonokeeper-the-writer-for-grim-fate

---

I would not expect you to have read the QnA. When I say "main comic" I am referring to the comic shown in the gallery above (I realize now I never specified that - sorry for the confusion). Anyway, all the things I noted are in the above gallery. It's true we don't have the full backstory of the characters in the above gallery, or the story as to why they were on that airship in the first place, but I don't think that is vital to follow what is going on in the gallery.

If some of the stuff I mentioned doesn't appear to be in the above gallery, I'd like to know. Perhaps it could be made clearer? I'd need more specific critique to ponder possible changes / tweaking of how information is presented in the future.

Yes, because the only time you would name your characters is when you're 'in love' with them, not because they're characters in a comic.

The side ones of the QnA give you info some real and some silly. But at the same time the info is not being explained just yet because this IS A HENTAI comic so its going to have more sex and fetishes and SOME story in between, so stop freaking worrying so damned much and just watch.

The comic on this page IS the main comic. There is no link to it, because this is it. The gallery above has it. That's what I said in my previous comment.

I can link to other places it is hosted, but since you've already seen it (it is what you were commenting on), there is no need to do so. All of my comments refer to stuff in the main comic I.E. in what you have seen.

To add to two comments ago - Saundra has since made it clearer that she/Sylvia are also from the ship.

----

@Larkane

Although it is true most hentai (that are not very specific sorts of plots) are going to suffer from some pacing issues regardless since time spent fucking is generally time spent not moving the plot forward, that doesn't mean I don't care about the plot. I certainly like to have folk comment on the plot!

That said, I still feel what has been explained thus far is what is needed to have some idea what is going on. Issue 2+ is going to be more complex in the plot department as well - we were going to do far more episodic comics but have since decided otherwise.

Adoring this comic and the side material fleshing out the story.
The artist has come a long way from his days of making egg-stuffed elves on Hentai Foundry. Now he makes egg-stuffed foxgirls on Tumblr.
Our protagonists could really use Maria's advice on competence
And since you're up to fielding story questions, I have a few:

Although I have absolutely no complaints with a comic focused on breasts and wombs, do you have some facet of your design manifesto that avoids significant anal penetration? (i.e. anti-Ishimura)

Are the immobile bodies in the water plants already dead and being digested? Does that take a hundred years or is it the case that it typically takes a very long time to die?
Does Amber being part ice-cream suggest only melting (not gorily in keeping with the setting) in direct sun exposure or also more malleable flesh/digestibility?

Was Rika trained by the biggest badass in the setting? Is she aware of the electric tentacle hovering above her in her hilarious struggle splash page?

Since most named characters are demonstrated using magic, is it an extremely common ability? Are magics natured to the individual or up to personal style? Are channelers just inherently better at it?
Is shapeshifting normal for channelers or is it a learned witch skill?
Does Safi having her soul stuffed with foxes to mute her channeling mean that she fused with them and changed her aura, or that she has a bunch of them running around in her head?
Can she meditate to hang out with them?

Can the plant that is taking notes when plants can't read notes actually in fact read them? Is that an affectionate little "You tried." headpat page 40 panel 2?
Since Juniper seems to recognize the demon plant's species (or at least infer a hybrid) on sight, are rape plants more common than straight murder plants?
And if she knows the behavior and existence of such a thing, how batshit was her aunt to venture alone into this?
The guy running from fluffy little spores in the Q&A scene made me laugh, by the way.

I may not be up to financially supporting your comic ATM, but take my energy つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

> On anal - Nothing against it. We didn't think about it during the Safi section, and is a box we'll try to check now and then.

> On water plant digestion and such: This will be answered later in-comic, but I'll say that the plants have a great deal of control over the rate of digestion. The modifications to Amber's body would aid in digestion, yes.

> On Rika's teacher: Well, she was certainly trained by a badass. As for the shocking tendril, her sword impaling it to the rock suggests they've been acquainted.

> On Magic - Plant Food and You Can Only Buy take place in the same multiverse, but on different worlds. Magic is a little different on each. It's less common in YCOB world. Shapeshifting to that extent is not common on plant food's world, however.
>> In plant food's world, having some magical ability is extremely common. Being capable with all types of magic is less common, as is being able to utilize the most powerful spells. Most characters shown thus far are unusually powerful, but what they have shown thus far in the main comic is not out of the norm when not near the sealing wall. The only exception might be Safi's breath attack..
>> Safi fused with the foxes.

> The plant can read its notes - the green tendrils use a heavily modified form of photosynthesis to "see". Hence the illumination and underground tendrils being green.

> Many cursed forest plants are less fuck-y, the ones in this area are unusually sexual. The base plants of that hybrid are sorta sexual, however, if not to the same degree of this (much, much larger) hybrid.

> I liked the fluffy spore bit as well. Glad I put that in the script for that QnA.

The extra Safi arc feels a little forced in the context of the scene, and I felt the previous fade to black was just ambiguous enough about elapsed time and how she broke.
But hey, I can certainly see why your subscribers voted for her. Her sarcastic tone and sassy internal monologue has easily made her the most attractive character in the story.
You know that's some serious sensation on page 35 when her stalwart stream of thoughts suddenly matches the moans outside.

58-59 now have brought us into "come for the porn, stay for the plot" territory that I can only surmise has to do with the inter-dimensional overlord who made a cameo earlier.
This plant(s?) was stated to have been given its power and presumably consciousness from that guy, but we viewers don't know what that's like yet. Is it a sentient colony a la Planet? An uplifted demon plant with an artificial mind? Maybe some dude from another reality that was gifted the form of rape plants from an ill-considered wish?
It definitely seems aware of being observed in what looks to be the flooded fantasy mirror of the other lab.
"The Diners" doesn't seem to be a real book and is probably just a vore reference, the books on the left just suggest arcana and craziness, the books on the right perhaps some insight into astral projection or possession of plants. The LCD monitor tells us this lab is at least at what we'd consider current day, but the ham radio and swirly-antenna'd TV again highlight eccentricity. Maybe they're the easiest to re-purpose. The power cables appear to actually plug into the magic circle.
Of course, most interesting of all is the blackboard. Memory record+soul bits and Theseus' Paradox suggest reconstituting a person. Whether that means from the plants, or as a means of travel to another world, or to resurrect the dead remains to be seen.
Maybe this unknown viewer wants to go there or steal someone away.

I am enthralled by this story. You could probably run a SFW web comic out of this world and be relatively competitive with anything out there.

Besides giving comics like GFC a more stable future the upper tier rewards include comic commissions and such so if you like Eldrik's work you might find this to be of interest: https://igg.me/at/sponsorion/x/17688216

Whose who (and what's happening to them as of page 154):

Safi is the fox gal, yes. She's trapped in a pod, but the liquid is pouring out.

Josie is the black-haired elf woman. She's Juniper's Aunt, and recently damaged the pod Safi is in. She's getting shocked in the most recent main comic page.

Juniper is the blond-haired elf woman WITH glasses, and she's currently headed to somewhere or other as part of a Plan(TM).

Saundra is the freckled lady that's trapped in the other pod.

Rika is the woman that's still alive underwater.

Sylvia is the blond-haired elf that had earth magic, and is currently bound in the coconut.

Neriah is the bird woman that's also bound in the coconut.

Mitra has never been shown on screen, but has been referred to as being a third woman bound in the coconut. What she looks like is unknown.

UPDATE:

As noted before, next week I'll be removing the bonus vacation stuff.

Hrm... on the sameness, I suppose it's because they various ladies involved ended up being in very similar set-ups. This scene ended up being longer than origionally planned, and I think it might have been better if we tweaked the coconut set up so that the three ladies were trapped a bit differently.

As for What's Going On.. well it's actually pretty similar to my last big comment.. anyway:

> Safi & Saundra are seeded and trapped in pods that are floating through the sky on a path leading them deeper into the jungle. Saundra has freckles and her reddish hair is more of a RL coloration. Saundra was with Sylvia back in the caves before they both got caught.

> Rika is in an underground lake, trapped in a Jellmock seaweed plant, and has hair that's a deeper red than any natural RL color.

> Juniper is trying to get the plants to release Josie back on the surface.

> Sylvia, last coconut survivor, is trying to slow down the process of the plant absorbing her for a quick boost of magic.

> Neriah, Katarina, Mitra, and Amber have been digested by various plants and are dead. Their souls, or at least what's left of them, have gone through some sort of salvaging process and will likely be used as materials for something else.

Dragonaira has it - as long as Safi believes the plant can't kill her in the dream it really can't do it. Everything going on in the dream is either the seeds
A) Trying to come up with a plan, which it's indirectly having Safi do by having her subconscious fill in the memories "Amber" would have (Because the seeds are extremely limited mentally - Safi was correct that the entire dreamworld is borrowing from her own imagination).
B) Using the plan to trick Safi into thinking that the situation's changed, and that they CAN kill her after all.

Safi's soul is basically the nutrition the seeds need to fully develop their own consciousness.

----

As for "the whole point"... I mean we had Juniper escape, and things are looking hopeful for Josie. The original Willow Palm not only lost a fight but was literally killed. The remnant w/Sylvia, even if it succeeds in converting her into a new core, won't restore the original plant's consciousness. It's dead, she'd at best be a more direct successor. Stoneslime Creeper has had a ~33% win rate (although it's still alive).
Edit: Stoneslime also failed to catch Josie. So 1/3.
Edit: Oh yeah, Jellmocks also failed to catch Josie (flashback). So they're only batting 2/3.

Lol just when we think it's getting close to the end and we see a whole new chapter or act of this series start... We get a 1-2 month long flashback sequence, lol.

It's starting to feel like LOST, where they originally planned to have 3 maybe 4 seasons, but then decided to stretch it out for twice that.

If you made all new characters for a different story arc in that universe I don't think anyone would really notice all that much... It's the character endings and finality most are here for, and it's def what you do best. No need for months of backstory where there is no action o/ I mean, unless you are really into that... Maybe you could write some non illustrated short stories between panel releases for some more details?

@WRVBU762 Safi is immune to her own freezing breath. The seeds have not fully fused with her, so they are only partially immune. Since the seeds are very vulnerable to cold, being only partially immune is not enough.

(If Safi was not immune to her own magic her breath would at least freeze her teeth, and it has not done so).

Granted, greatly lowering the temperature of the air in her stomach could cause discomfort.

----

Immunity to being directly harmed by their own magic magic is common. For example, Josie can't burn herself with her fire. However, if her fire set a branch on fire, the fire on that branch could burn her.
