The logic behind the usual blackmail in hentai sort of makes sense if you buy in into Japanese social norms: the shame culture in which a respectable member of society (i.e. a housewife) is expected to live a mind-numbing boring life due to obligations to family & society, hence being caught doing something outside of that being possibly life ruining. Another problem with shame culture (especially one that also has victim blaming) is that the asstwat who breaks the social mores first reap a lot of benefits at the expense of others, as well as bulk of the negative effects dumped into the victims.

And people still wonder why Japan's population continues to decline (at this point it's getting harder to blame their housing collapse of the 90s)

But calling the cops on him would also inadvertently reveal that she isn't the picture perfect housewife, and that would effectively nuke her social standing and life. It's really hard to explain how fucked up the shame culture is there (though TBF hentai does extravagate a lot of it). We see similar situation with rape victims who reported their rapist to the cops: society still shame them for being victims and blaming them for something they had no control over.

Calling blackmailers on their bluff and getting the law involved is generally the mutual suicide option (which admittedly is still the superior option IMO, but I would understand if one doesn't do it out of a desperate hope that the alternative might be potentially less painful).

@Poe mk.II I won't pretend to be any type of expert, but I don't see how her name would actually get out into the public from calling the cops on him. I could see him leaking it if he wasn't an obsessive shithead who thought that she belonged to him. Cops coming to their house to sweep for video/listening devices would look rather fishy, admittedly. Other than that, unless she or her husband started talking, I don't see how the general public would find out.
