Pretty tone deaf take, and personally speaking, I don't have problems with someone being faster than me. After all, that's a me problem.
What I do take problem with is exactly something like this, where someone uploads first, except it's clear that it's a half-assed job or in some cases, MTL garbage.
Not only that but when they have the audacity to acknowledge that they did a shit job and hopes that someone will pick up after them.
I don't ask for everyone to be at the standards that I set for myself. All I ask is that you at least have some decency and make it obvious that you tried.

Calling "dibs" is more about personal etiquette and not wasting your own time or anyone else's.
It'd be pretty fucking stupid for multiple people to work on the same thing when their time and efforts could be better spent elsewhere.
