Definitely add more if you're willing. The more the merrier! I think it would be fun to have another ship come to the island years later and find everybody (son,baby,mother) maybe even with another pregnant belly. Perhaps even pirates to come and cause some trouble with the mother, maybe do things with her in front of the son? Whatever you come up with I'm sure would be great.
