Something that the Japanese artist conveniently forgot about the battle of Guadalcanal is that Kirishima and the destroyer Ayanami were so badly damaged that both ships were scuttled as a result. Additionally, BB-57 South Dakota handed out her fair share of hurt during that night time engagement, the South Dakota was rendered blind part way through due to a switch board malfunction knocking out most of its radar. Thus greatly reducing the ships effectiveness in the engagement and making it into a glorified floating target. But despite sustaining severe damage, the South Dakota survived, and participated in many more battles until it was decommissioned in 1947.
