I use a very thin dark wash (not black or gray) and brush that across the clothing lines. It is too thin to color the regular clothing but the wash settles more in the creases and as it dries, that crease, the deeper it is, gets darker slightly. For delicate surfaces that are necessarily thin, I make sure the main painted surface is cured before washing.
