Ah ha! I thought that the images looked distinctly like the work of Steve Ditko (co-creator of Spiderman and other Marvel characters). He and Stanton became friends when they attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and sometimes "helped" each other out when they shared a studio on 8th Avenue from 1958 to 1966.
