In all the deluge of MTL galleries being spammed and downvoted as of late, and all the comments begging for it to stop, you thought this was "good enough to publish"? How?

I read way worse translations done by 'human' translators. And I am not hiding the fact it is a MTL. It's in the title and even noted on page 2. There's plenty of stuff that won't ever get a 'good' translation - either officially or fan translated. So would you rather never get a tranlation than something that can at least be understood? I mean, sure, this might not be perfect (far from it) but using GPT4o resulted in a noticably better translation.

I know there are some bad examples for MTL on this site where it's obvious the people just ran it through a program, didn't edit anything and just upload it. But MTL improves by the day and it's only a matter of time before most works are done using MTL - like it or not. It's a tool like any other. How one uses it is another matter.

Yes, having nothing is preferable to MTL. The only way MTL has improved is that it made the English sound better. It's no more correct than it ever has been.

Remember to add "other:rough translation" to your to blacklist so you don't have to see them.

To do so, go to /mytags

There's been an update on the site, MTLs should get tagged with it more often than not now. In fact, this one already is.

It produced way less 'gibberish' than other 'translators' (at least compared to GoogleTL, DeepL, GPT3.5). The translated text is a lot more 'readable' as in 'better' english. Is it more accurate though? I can't say with certainty. But comparing the results with other translators and going by what can be seen on the images, I'd say yes. A lot, actually. It's like GPT4o (and GPT4) kinda understands the context of the dialogue.

If I had a high enough JLPT level, I would obviously be able to proof read and edit the text and not tag this is a MTL. So no, I don't. I can read a bit but not enough to do a proper translation.

I know there are some parts in this that still sound 'off' (e.g. page 45, upper right text box) but for the most part it is 'okay'. I at least put 'some' effort into this (typsetting, some minor mistakes) and surely won't spam this site with more...

I gave it a look. Sure, the English sounds okay line by line, but as a whole it's a disjointed mess, since this is MTL. A human translator makes mistakes but can connect ideas, and adds their own interpretation to their translation.

An example:
Page 22:
OG:そうだよっ!今更怒るよ!
OP:That's right. I'm angry now!
OG:いっぱい三人ではなして
OP:We talked a lot, the three of us.
OG:パパもOKしたじゃない!!
OP:Even Dad gave his approval.

First line is a non-sequitur. The MTL is ignoring 今更, "after all this time."
Second and third lines make a complete idea. Once again, the MTL has no clue, and comes up with the best guess it can with the available data. Only way I can see the engine doing an average job is if everyone talked like a 6yo.

>So would you rather never get a tranlation than something that can at least be understood?
My brother in Christ, the raw came out like three days ago.

>I'm gonna PROOOOMPT
You probably can get better results by feeding the machine enough info and context to make better sense of each line, with a basic understanding of Japanese, but at that point, you might as well learn the language, don't you think?

Yeah, but people are tired of waiting for years only to get nothing. Now they just don't wait at all, because they know it hardly ever pays off.

Just filter rough grammar in your tags, and you'll get the nothingness you desire, while the people who prefer this over nothing also get at least... something.
Unless it's not satisfactory until you can enforce your preferences on everyone?

Thank you for taking the time with your example. Though the first line you picked is correct as is in my opinion. 今更 (imasara) can be translated to 'now' (or at 'at this stage').

If edited I would probaly write the mentioned lines likes this:
1. That's right. I am getting angry / mad now!
2. We all talked about it (a lot)!
3. And you also gave your OK(, dad)!

I wonder if edited properly people would still downvote this. Honestly, if edited properly and 'tagging' it as manual translation, nobody would even notice.

>I'm gonna PROOOOMPT
No need to get passive aggressive here. I did not insult you or anyone else before, right?

Also, yes, it's only a few days old. Will someone release a proper translation? Maybe. Who knows. Maybe there will never be one. It's not like this MTL here is going to stop a proper translation to be released.

@topkekkles
Don't worry. As mentioned in another comment here, I won't upload any more. That includes various raws I have too.

You underestimate just how easy it is to pick out when the machine has had its hands on something. For those of us who can read Japanese, it's as clear as night and day. After all, why would a human translator randomly leave out parts of the sentence? Or suddenly seem to lose all track of the flow of a conversation?

The only people you'd be fooling if you pretended to be bilingual by trying to pass off an MTL as your own work are monolinguals. And with recent site changes, anyone capable of detailing the telltale signs of a non-proficient translation (like cybeast or myself) can get the administration to permanently attach the rough translation tag to anything you upload. Probably not a great idea on a site that only allows for a single account per lifetime!

I know and understand that many don't like MTLs and I also prefer works by human translators. I am really thankful for all the work they put into translating and letting us enjoy more 'stuff'.

Most comments here seem be coming from such translators, contributors to those, raw uploaders and maybe even some users who just understand japanese. That a MTL like this offends those, I kinda understand. Though MTLs are intended more for the people who don't belong to either of those groups.

I can only repeat myself: I thought the progress in AI and AI assisted tools is fascinating. Is the tech there yet? No, surely not. But if you compare the capabilities from 1-2 years ago to today, the progress is almost scary. And I really wonder how far it will progress in 1, 2 or 5 years.

There's so many works (normal manga and hentai) that to this day are untranslated and I hope that with future 'AI' tech more people can enjoy more japanese works (or other languages). Sorry for making this a discussion about MTL / AI and sorry if it offended anyone. Never was my intention.

@meganekov3
You are right. The latter part was immature of me. It probably got to me that it did not matter what i wrote in the comments and only got 'negative' replies (not talking about the downvotes, those i don't care about).

@Daruna
Well, things like this (MTL) are not meant for those of you who can read Japanese. I mean, what's the point? This work is on the 'easier' language side (I think), so yes, with a bit of honest editing this could pass off as passable - of course it would still need be properly tagged (as rough translation). Don't misunderstand though. This here did not get that level of editing (or any / much), so I don't pass this off as 'good', never have. Initially I stated in my first comment that it is 'good enough' (for a MTL) but that never meant it's good. I wouldn't tag it as a manual translation either, that was a 'if' scenario. So I hope you were just generally speaking.

@TKLF
Why would it not be acceptable? It's tagged as rough translation (the tag was introduced for MTLs, right? There's no 'MTL' tag I could use instead), has MTL in the title and even a note on site 2 that it is in fact, a MTL. The raw is also available on this site and linked to. So you have the option to choose. This is like reading an NTR tagged hentai when you don't like NTR and then downvote it because it's NTR. If I don't like a work that is tagged properly, then don't read and complain about it. At least in an ideal world that's how it would be.

The English sounds more natural. That's the progress, the translation quality is largely the same.

>There's so many works (normal manga and hentai) that to this day are untranslated and I hope that with future 'AI' tech more people can enjoy more Japanese works (or other languages).
The general advice when this comes up is "keep it to yourself". Popping out an MTL is relatively painless nowadays, no reason to throw it out into the public. The reaction is almost always overwhelmingly negative.

>Why would it not be acceptable?
Because when someone doesn't know the source language and puts text they can't verify as accurate into the bubbles it doesn't really speak to their love of the source work. Personally, If I didn't really care about the writing in the medium I'd instead browse a booru or something, instead of mediums where writing is a significant part of it. I don't understand why someone who does care about the writing aspect of the medium would go with an option that is at best a "maybe this is what it's supposed to convey" but maybe that's just me.

>It's tagged as rough translation (the tag was introduced for MTLs, right?
The rough translation tag was originally introduced for people proficient in Japanese to tag galleries that were poorly translated. It originated due to a dispute between translators and moderators over the use of the "rewrite" tag on galleries where the uploader had no Japanese proficiency (and thus couldn't verify what he was putting into the bubbles, essentially filling them in with whatever he wanted which is textbook rewrite) and filled in the bubbles with, very often incorrect, machine translated text. It was made clear during that debate that "machine translated" wouldn't be an acceptable tag, and a tag that required a translator to take time out of their day and compile a comment with proof was the compromise. Due to the aforementioned psychological aversion of the moderation on the site to have an actual "Machine Translated" tag, the rough translation tag was recently (and without any notice or warning, which was as pleasantly surprising as it was puzzling) expanded in scope to also include MTLs when the uploader indicates so. It's been a bit of a mess.

I can understand everyone's knee jerk reactions to MTL, but this isn't the worst piece i've read. Would I prefer something human translated? Absolutely. But it could be a lot worse. Compared to some worse offenders, the grammar is passable _for the most part_ and doesn't sound like some ESL speaking (some sentences, as an example, the blue text in pg 12 or pg 40 where the mother is referring to herself have obvious signs of MTL). Aside from pg 47, its also cleaned and typeset decently, something shitty ESL MTLers wouldn't even put in the effort to do.

tl;dr yeah its bad but it could be a LOT worse.

What an oddly realistic scenario. The odor and how strongly it links to memory affects relationships. I have heard that smell can be a natural deterrent from incest, though I think it's still up for debate.
Being open to talk about this and not shame them is the right ting to do in a real scenario, but you should obviously not go for intercourse with your adoptive daughter or son.

Regarding the translation. Sure. Make a stand on wanting quality translations by human hands, but this site has a ton of bad translations by both humans and machine. It is not like this is anything new, and adding a tag for Machine Translation / AI Translation would be a good idea.
This translation is passable for me to enjoy the story, though I sympathize with those being distracted by incorrect translation and flawed English.
I *can* however *not* sympathize with this translation not being good enough to publish. There is by that standard a ton of other translations that needs to be cleaned up that are worse, and all who want this site to have quality submissions should put in some time every day to comb through the site to make a list of works that need a resubmission with better quality translation.

This doujinshi is not tagged so people can filter it out, but at least it has a claim at the start that warns people after they click in. Though it's not good enough. The excitement of seeing a work by a creator you like being squashed by weird and flawed dialogue is an irritation to say the least. We should have specific tags for this if we don't already have them.

I'm a lurker. I don't contribute much, and my opinions should be taken with a grain of salt.

Guys you are being jerks. Lets add a tag for AITranslation. That'll take care of the issue, as Crab said, there are some serious *awful* translations out there done by people. And sure MTL have got a lower standard, but for a solid section of ppl (like me) that's NOT a barrier to enjoying some of the manga

I feel it would be better if there were a setting somewhere to simply hide MTL rather than a tag, but yah, depends in implementation

Also
I need to add that if it werent because of MTL then I wouldnt have been exposed to this particular manga, and I liked it a fair bit. Less barriers of entry is something positive I feel
