They forget their old selves. It's why they forget why they have it, why they forget already using it twice, why they forget why they said Morrigan's name (they forgot her identity too), and why they forgot where they were. The only real oddity is that it worked on Morrigan even though they said it only works on mortals....and why there isn't more.
