For those wondering where the bloat came from, this gallery is saved as PNGs rather than JPGs. A quick test with the first two pages reveals that, with a JPG quality of 90, this costs 10mb(12.6mb as PNGs versus 2.6mb as JPGs). It's the inevitable difference between lossless and lossy compression.
