Or stayed at the nunnery to become a Sister. Become a doctor. Becom a nurse. Become a politician. Become a housewife. Become a teacher. Exiled herself to a neutral non-combatant country.
In fact, become basically anything other than a member of the military. Joining the military in a country at war was probably the single worst occupation she could’ve chosen.

There was going to be a draft. Either join the military of your own free will as an officer or be drafted. With her magic, she was definitely going to be drafted because of mage shortages, so this was actually the single best occupation she could've chosen.
