Page 3, already a mistake grave enough to make me assume everything else is horribly mistranslated. Mina-san? I think you're thinking of the word "Minnasan" is a way of saying "Everyone" or something equivalent. It is not the name of a person. As context makes clear, if you look at what she's saying and to whom. This is the kind of mistake no one with even a passing familiarity with the language would make.

Listen, I know you mean well, but even if you are relying on machine translation, you still should have SOME knowledge of Japanese, even if bellow basic levels, to avoid this kind of thing. Your guesswork will only take you so long, especially if you fuck up this kind of expression (you see cringy teenager anime fans using "Minnasan" on the internet sometimes, it's that basic of a word). MT often gets sentences completely wrong because it can't tell context and thus will string the wrong words together, and you can only tell it's doing that if you have at least some basic grasp on how sentence structure works in Japanese, which is something you can learn pretty fast. If you really want to translate things I recommend you learn basic grammar and structure, so you can at least break up the phrases in smaller chunks machine translation is less likely to fuck up.

This is more like a bad rewrite than a translation, makes me sad to see this treated this way since it makes a proper translation less likely in the future. *sigh*

Of course there are so little of Otakumin works translated and the one we get has to be a rewrite, sigh...

Ok, so I was expecting terrible reviews considering I went into this completely blind. It's good to hear what I did wrong and the problems with machine translation. I had hoped that this would spark someone to do a much better job than my shit "translation" and I will totally delete this galley the second an even slightly better version comes around. Anyways, thanks for telling me i fucked up and sorry for wasting y'all time

Seriously, if you're gonna translate something, don't do such a half-assed job with machine translation. It's absolutely pointless, you're just ruining things for everybody. Leave this job for people with some actual japanese skills.

Don't worry about it Phillip, it was a good try, keep at it.
Rest easy tho, I'll help you out, let me take a crack at it.

@philipisawesome Unfortunately, that's not how it works. Most of the time, a lackluster translation won't "spark someone to do a better job", it's the other way around, if it had a small chance of getting picked for a translation before, an english version existing (doesn't matter if good or bad, or if it's a rewrite) pretty much kills it unless some dedicated fan is willing to pay for a commission of it. Needless to say, that's a very rare occurence. Because most people will settle for it, no matter how poor quality, as you can see the "well why don't YOU complainers do it better then???" comments. Because having it in English is enough for most people even if the translation is absolutely terrible. And also because not a lot of people have the money to thrown around commissioning doujins that are already translated. of course.

So if you did this in hopes to call attention to the work to see if anyone better would do it, I'd say that's the wrong way to got about it. You should be translating things if you want to hone your translation skills and to share stuff you like with others (which well, requires you to be able to read said stuff in its original language first...), not to try to bait other translators into picking it.

I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, it's just what I think.

@ron_hayato I completely understand what you mean. People are going to settle for mediocre "translations" and not bother to actually translate doujins with actual skill. I was thinking about this while doing this and considering that this raw has been out for almost 2 years, I really wasn't sure if I should wait how many years for someone actually qualified to translate or do it myself and maybe hope someone would do a much better job than me, even if it might kill it and it's a little bit of a shit thing to do. I am going to stop publishing things but I am going to improve my skills with the little free time that I have as a student. Thanks for the harsh but justified feedback

@philoer If you have an even basic understanding of Japanese, PLEASE do a way better job than this version. Sorry for kinda "baiting" you like ron_hayato said but i really didn't mean anything insidious by doing this.

Also since i had no idea how ordering works and forgetting to link raws, i updated that. Now if only i could change this horrible username lol. thanks @yaps for the roast
