God the memories this brings back. My mother, brother and I would play the crap out of this game when we were 5-6 but never had the manual for it. When I was around 15, my older cousin had his manual, despite no longer owning a SNES and when looking thru it, I read that there was a 4th Sword upgrade that my family had never known about. Well, after reading that, I brought out the old SNES, popped in the game and started a new game, looking for that 4th Sword upgrade my family had missed. Ended up finding every heart piece, every optional item, talked with every NPC while going thru the game in search of this damn sword. After getting the Tempered Sword, I just started getting desperate, going back and double checking ares in the hopes that maybe they'd do something different now that I'd gotten the Tempered Sword. Then, I remember Venus, the Queen of Fairies and her constant upgrade fountain for Bombs/Arrows so I figured maybe that was how I could upgrade my Sword but after purchasing all the other upgrades but never getting an option to upgrade my sword, I was livid so I just gave up at that point and proceeded to go thru the game as I normally did. I go thru the steps to bomb the wall to the "Fat" Fairy as we christened her and just decided to say screw it and thru the Tempered Sword in, figuring that since the Waterfall of Wishing this would be the same thing and just get it back as is. When I got that Golden Sword instead, I was just so happy, I just could help but let out a big WOOHOO before beating the ever living crap out of that game like no ones business. It was a great day for me.
