from the account settings page: (Resolutions above 1280x are restricted to accounts with any hath perk, a bronze star, or an UID below 3,000,000.)

in short, uploading anything above 1280p to this site is pointless cause it just gets compressed down to garbage.

Thats not quite right. The site *serves* 1280p by default to conserve bandwidth. The original 4k upload is however present and available by using the "download original file" option, bottom right of each image.
