Not really a case of AI "getting better", but people learning how to utilize AI better. You get the weird fingers and other inconsistent crap if you tell AI to create something from scratch. But you get much better results if you just take someone else's drawing and put an AI filter on top. Some people use 3D models, then put the AI animu filter on top.
Don't give money to AI stuff though, technically it isn't owned by the one who generated it and odds are he used someone else's drawing with it.

The AI didn't adapt and learn by itself, a human being had to figure out a workaround. This gallery a great example where you see a lot of repeated body parts, like exact same faces that the AI places on the picture like paper cut dolls. A human had to limit the image banks the AI uses when its searching for hands.
