Regarding this, I really don't see a point in those non-canon generic male partners. The Shino series became much more memorable once the protagonist switched to Kirto.

Sinon was like one of the main heroines so having Kirito as the protagonist makes it easier to drive out whatever emotion in Sinon that the Author wants her to have.
For Yuuki's case, I would prefer she stick with Asuna than going with Kirito, since I hardly remember a scene where those 2 have a "romantic" conversation
