It's just 600dpi scan. Nothing really new - you just never get that res as end user, because it's big and 300dpi is much easier to operate most the time. Though it's easier to find 600dpi for a doujin rather than manga, if only because of the size and length.

600dpi 16-bit Grayscale/48-bit RGB Color IT8-target calibrated profile in Vuescan x64. If you want to talk filesizes, you should see the .tiff raws for these. Up to 192MB per file on the color scans.

It should be noted that this is after lossless compression with pngcrush + optipng with the most intensive compression methods used, which, if I read the documentation correctly, may also reduce the bit depth depending on varying factors. "For example, if all sample values in a 16-bit image have the form (256+1)*n, (e.g. #0000, #2323, #FFFF), then the bit depth can be reduced to 8...n, (e.g. #00,#23,#FF)."
