...what you said has nothing to do with both Nier and Nier Automata. Mankind's demise isn't their fault, but the result of an illness born from the remmants of an Eldritch abomination, and confirmed by the misguided actions of a team of clones.

The conflict in Automata is the eternal war between the manmade androids and the alienmade machine lifeforms, and while the official reason is victory for their respective masters, the real reason is survival, since both sides aren't sure they would survive peace and the truth.

What you need to know about this series is that it's a sequel of sorts. The prequel game ended with mankind fucking things up so hard that they made basically everyone and everything go extinct.

But the setting had robots, and robots could theoretically keep on ticking, so the creator said "this won't stand" and made a game where robotkind can fuck up hard enough to make everyone go extinct, for real this time.
