It just feels like a huge waste of potential, now I understand that the dangerous thing for the anime to do is having way too many filler/spin-off and people despise those, so it can't really derail too much from the manga, but dammit, as I mentioned before, there's are so many good character concept ideas, episode 3 from season 2 shows this when they showcase the 42 participants, that's 42 quirks, designs, personalities and names.

For what it's worth, they've already been hinted for a future arc, at least in the manga. The series leans heavily into its rotating cast, and there's been a bunch of hints and set-up for major arcs about 1-B. But we'll see, the series is still new.
