Full credit for scan belongs to something or other scans.

Context: If you wonder about the translation, Fou-Lu is an ancient dragon god summoned by mankind to fight for and unite the Western territories. The original ceremony was centuries ago, but imperfect as he was split into two parts (Fou-Lu and Ryu, the player character). After a long slumber, he was reawakened. His way of speaking reflects the old times. Mami, on the other hand, stems from the countryside and tends to Fou-Lu's injuries and provides him with shelter. She was later used as a human sacrifice to fuel a superweapon (the carronade) by the current empire against Fou-Lu. The aftermath is "the hex" Fou Lu refers to. The bell you see on the last few pages is the one she used to wear. Fou-Lu then proceeds to defeat the empire, decapitates the current emperor and finally fights his other half.

I wish there could've been an alternate ending where everyone gets to be happy, not just Ryu.
Also I'm still waiting for a fantranslation of 4, since the international version was butchered in some parts.

Agreed, Fou-Lu also deserves happiness in the end, despite his, by human standards twisted worldview. He simply tried to reclaim what was rightfully his before Yuna and the others tried to usurp him.
From a god's perspective, his reasoning makes more sense. Technically, he fused with Ryu so you could say Ryu's happiness is in a way Fou-Lu's. Then again, everybody lost someone dear - Nina and Cray lost Elina, Ursula her grandfather General Rhun and Ershin/Deis had to whitness Rasso's slaughter in Chek... Peace might be achieved but the dead will never return sadly...

The international version was not just butchered in terms of translation, but also heavily censored - three scenes were cut out completely from the game. Maybe we get to see a fantranslation or an uncut remaster one day. Oddly enough, BoF V: Dragon Quarter was quite gritty and explicit, even in the international version...

>She was later used as a human sacrifice to fuel a superweapon (the carronade)

The Carronade works on amplifying the pain grief and sadness of the sacrifice to curse the area fired upon, so on top of her soul being blasted to oblivion in the Hex, the poor girl was also physically and mentally tortured for *weeks* before being used. And ontop of that, the closer the sacrifice feels to the target the stronger the hex is. the fact Mami was head over heels in love with Fu-Lou was what made the hex so powerful.
