Many thanks to Moustashe, Novajam, LuciferEarring and the others who helped look over this TL.
Notes: The Republic chapter refers to the Republic of Taiwan. The original text of the poem used here is "早惊见人间尤物,洛阳重遇,遮面还羞", which is a fairly obscure piece of Taiwanese poetry. The author apparently had an encounter with a beautiful courtesan in the past, and they met again in Luoyang after many years. Both of them were presumably married by then, and they blushed and bowed shyly to each other. Or at least that's what my source told me.
The dudou (肚兜) is an old-fashioned apron-like undergarment that Chinese ladies used to wear, you could say it's the Asian equivalent of granny panties, maybe?
Actually, considering the year,1925, I think the Republic chapter refers to ROC, Republic of China, not Taiwan. It is a long story which is complicated and hard to explain but... I don't know, better take a look at history of East Asia.

Bullshit. It's Republic of China, the predecessor of today's People's Republic of China. The poem "早惊见人间尤物,洛阳重遇,遮面还羞" is not a Taiwan poem at all, its author, Zhang Boju(张柏驹,1898-1982), born in the last years of Dynasty Qing in Mainland China and became a well known member of the Art association of PRC government, since the founding of new China, a.k.a People's Republic of China in 1949. He soon participated in the Chinese Art & Artifacts rebuliding after ROC failed the civil war and took all the gold reserves of the country and countless artifacts (E.g: treasures like Jade cabbage in Taipei Palace Museum).
He then accepted the appointment of being the Palace Museum special committee, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage Appraisal Committee, Deputy Director of Jilin Museum, Central Literary History librarian of China, yanjing university Chinese department of Chinese art history, and the Director of the Chinese Painting Research Association.
The Repblic chapter refers to ROC's earlier years during 1915-1930. At that time, Taiwan is still a province of ROC, so as Mongolia, which later gained independence in 1946 for ROC government to exchange for USSR's help to fight against Japanese Army garrisoned in northeast China.
Republic of Taiwan stands for a period that the native people stood and fought against Japanese invasion in 1895. No need to persuade me it exists today unless you're able to show me any official, non-edited passport/ certification with the noum ROT on it. The most obvious difference between child and adult is that the adult knows evidence works than simple loudness.
