Either these aliens, or the author themselves, have no idea how reproductive generics works. You mate with a heterogeneous individual in order to create a wider, healthier range of genetic possibilities for the offspring. Mating with an individual with a similar, or good forbid homogeneous, genetic makeup is a recipe for disaster, as you combine similar information and reduce the likelihood of introducing new mutations into the gene pool, leaving the population more vulnerable to adverse conditions. I'll stop here because i don't have enough correct info to further elaborate

Reproduction with a gender-reversed DNA equivalent of yourself is the "most efficient way of ensuring the survival of your species"?

For technologically advanced aliens, they're rather ignorant about the DNA-related problems of incestuous sex.

Forced Selfcest? That's definitely a new one.

So will her children be actual copies of herself like other parthenogenetic species?

Kinda feel like the title translation is wrong...
edit: oh, I guess it's the title of the tank? nevermind then...
@Aerith12 technically the genes mixing still happens so they should be different.

@Volttekka The biggest problem with inbreeding is that our DNA is a mess, and several genes are often disfunctional. When you mate with a heterogeneous partner, most likely the genes you have busted will be intact in them and vice versa. If you mate with a homogeneous mate there's no information to fix the fuck ups, so as time goes on the errors multiply and the risk of genetic diseases and malformations rises. Additionally, when everyone in a population is essentially a genetic clone, the population becomes horribly vulnerable to disease; An illness that can kill one member will kill them all.

This experiment with self-reproduction seems pointless if the aliens already know how to clone people.
Cloning adult humans is obviously more efficient and you won't get retard babies.

The act of self-fertilization, or also called selfing, is something that actually happens in the world.
There are animals, plants and fungi that actually do this and it's by far not as uncommon as people might think.
It is pretty much the extremest form of inbreeding, but, hey, at least the species survives.

Whether it is the 'most efficient' like the aliens say here, is up to debate, I guess. It basically guarantees survival of the species, but the overall health suffers.
The topic is quite broad, in regards to selfing, inbreeding and their long-term effects (of which not all are actually negative, mind you).

With that said, I wouldn't want to fuck my clone.

I'm more amused that the clone is left male and the original has their gender changed rather than creating a female clone.

ahh aliens... if they didnt destroy the earth once and leading them to ensure the survival of the species of mankind rests on an unequal gender ration of 15 students, they are most likely SJWs hell bent on protecting abused lolis

@Flandre-chan: Yeah, and every species that does that ALSO has a way of getting genetic material from other members of the species. Humans are already too normalized as a species (literally not even genetically different enough to have a sub-species/separate race), fucking genetic variance over even worse is a great way to make the species die.

That's a good part of the reason that unlike in dogs or whatever you can't just breed specific humans together to get some ULTIMATE HUMAN - that and how weirdly tied up human genetics are, and how intelligence is actively straight up impossible to pass down through genetics thanks to that right fucker we call "regression to the mean."

Regardless though, this is porn, expecting any logic is like expecting to be dry 1000 meters under the sea.

@Flandre-chan Actually the proper name for Self-Fertilization is Parthenogenesis.

Though its not actually inbreeding, as the parent can either bestow half or all of the alleles, so there is always some variation involved.

The most extreme example of this in nature are Aphids, who are essentially born pregnant.
