I also disagree with the "i'm just an old dude" mentality. You don't do a process has heavy as feminisation, changing your way of talking ,clothings, behaviour just to affirm out loud that you are a man. You can say you were a man, but not that you "don't want to be a woman. I think people misunderstand the “I’m a man” thing. It’s pretty consistent in the genre, even when it’s very apparent the character in question identifies and lives as a woman. Sure, Amanoja has stories where characters insist that they are still normal men rather than newhalves despite getting implants and the like, but more distinction is made in such cases and even the ones who don’t make this distinction and are called newhalves refer to themselves as men at times. It appears to be a difference in culture/language in Japan when it comes to these things. Like there’s more room for acknowledgement of physical sex vs gender identity.
