Disclaimer: I did my best as usual to sort out reaction images and just non-art from Caco-Bro. It's a tumblr knee-deep in doom shit posts as it stood, so the task got somewhat difficult fast

The first 35 are imgur uploads I happened to scrape, so the issue is that there really was no order since Imgur uploads are just extremely random about it, and most times I upload with a natural sort.

So in the case of images from tumblr itself, you'd get the inline (that'd be like images attached to an ask or a reply I think) first and in the chronological order there. Then you'd get any regular image upload in chronological upload order. Least for the longest time, I know recently the sites made some changes to how files are named

I think, tumblr has been already ruined since restricting access to raw images rather than purging NSFW posts.

Oh definitely. Like really, it's not so much a Tumblr issue as it is an artist issue when you think about it though.

Most artists just don't really care or think about the end result of their work, especially early on when they're learning and don't know any better.

Tumblr's decision to restrict the raw's on some level was understandable from a bandwidth perspective all things considered, especially when you realize just the sheer size of a large PNG file.

On the other hand, and I'm gonna give you all the secret of why to prefer raw in almost all cases, the Tumblr algorithm for resizing images down is just borked. If you ever come across an _1280 and a humongously large _raw, notice how some of the rows of pixels seem to be shifted down ever so slightly. Giving the image this lightly warped look once you realize it's there

The only issue is that artists thrive off of community interaction in some way shape or form, and the superior gallery sites don't really give you that ability. Twitter is in this okay category, but definitely not perfect for many. NewTumbl and PillowFort struggle to be relevant.

In a perfect world though, someone would have built a free and open source tool for artists to allow them to upload images to their different accounts. That way they can maximize exposure on the social media, and post the higher quality versions of their work on a site like Newgrounds or Pixiv, all with one fell swoop.

And even then though, there's some artists who still wouldn't do that. The artist ruf1ohn1tram/Spacey comes to mind all the time cause I'm certain they practiced no due diligence in preserving their own original works when drawn, and I am fairly certain they work on a bigger canvas than what they're saving at. They have either become REALLY skilled at drawing on canvases smaller than 1000x1000, or they are saving those things smaller to save space, and I highly doubt they save the project file.

And of course there are those who are aware of these things, thoroughly so, but they keep in either a limited fashion or exclusively so the highest res images behind a patreon/paywall.

Or you have BadassBaalBuddy (Artist known as BB) who is like "Here's my fucking Mega Archive".

Or you have JamesAB who just posts straight to this website themself.
