Without seeing the tags, and starting from Pg 2, I thought, this guy is getting genderbent. Something about it is always obvious.

Also, blood coming from your penis sounds pretty painful.

The dialogue is a bit ropey in parts;

"You were a girl before no?" followed right up by "you were a boy last time I saw you"

But the art is decent.

Hm the art is not bad. Amulai makes good stuff. The translation is passable too. It's better than MTL but not at the native English level yet.

On a side note, why is F_TSF disliked around here? Is there some history?

They have a history of coming here and other sites and attacking people that have done translations of their work, despite it often taking a long time for F_TSF to release translations, and usually at a far lower quality. They deserve the shit they get.

I don't usually go for genderbending, but I have to say I'm interested less because this tribe has a magic tattoo that turns men into women, and more because it also turns people brown. You can say it's the sun, but for some reason I just don't buy that this time...

@Yun* I will send the .psd data to FAKKU tomorrow. So it should be available on FAKKU in a week, or at least a month from now! FAKKU will, of course, release a version without mosaic censorship. Stay tuned. By the way, it would be helpful if you could vote for a positive rating on my comment.

incomplete without anyone share raw? damnit...

story-wise, it's not that different from any other genderbend vanilla... with extra memory tempering (those 2 dudes slowly forget their past language and implanted with fake memories that he is she in the first place and teaching about spirits whatsoever...)

process-wise, this might be the most painful genderbending process depicted... having period before his penis completely gone sounds like a scary disease...

F, is the FAKKU translation going to be identical to this one, or are you allowing them to make their own? I remember you mentioned once that you pay a local Japanese company to do translations sometimes.

@Psychotic Pastry FAKKU will publish almost the same data as this one. However, the mosaic censorship will be removed. Also, some minor changes have been made to the translation.

If that's the case, then my suggestion is to stop paying the local company to translate your writing if you care about being represented at the highest quality possible. The work they're doing for you is competently translated, but it feels off and low quality to any native speaker. It doesn't feel natural or have emotion, and the use of idioms and slang is weak at best. You would know if someone who'd only been educated on the most formal Japanese in a classroom tried to write fiction in Japanese, right?

I'm saying this because I think you deserve the money you get from your comics, and when you spend that money on translations, it should be the best translation possible for the money so you can make more money. The translations you're paying for right now aren't going to do that, and it's a shame.

EDIT: Wanted to add, since this is the first chance I've ever had to interact with you, that I like your work and I hope you continue.

@Psychotic Pastry

I'm only hiring a Japanese company, or in other words, a corporation established in Japan, to do the translation work for me, and that Japanese company is hiring foreigners to do the translation work.
However, I think the foreigners live in Asian countries where the company can hire cheaply.
Also, you may think that most of the readers of my works are native English readers, but in fact, they live in Germany, Sweden and France, etc. I question whether pursuing a translation like a native English speaker would be worth the cost.
On Patreon, I've had more than 100 people support me and I'm asking for feedback on the translation, and I haven't heard any complaints at the moment.
I've asked an American translator to translate texts of "Jewel Knights" and other some works. I might ask him to help me with the translation work, again.
Or maybe I could ask him to proofread it.
But, you'll have to wait until I have more time to do it, because it would be more administrative work for me than if I asked one company to do all the translation and typesetting.

I'm glad you brought up Japanese companies hiring foreigners living locally, because I thought about mentioning it, but it was too specific. That's actually pretty well-known in the west, and it's looked upon poorly because the people they hire aren't usually that good at their jobs. Capcom has done it a lot in the past with the Mega Man (Rockman) video games, and the end result is that American fans make jokes about Mega Man having bad, lazy voice acting. I don't know what they're charging you, so I can't tell you that you'd absolutely get a better deal if you talked to a western translator, but it's worth thinking about.

For Patreon supporters, they should be appreciated and commended, but you can't trust that audience to give you honest feedback. People who give you money on Patreon are more about supporting you as a person than they are about supporting your work. The rest are good points. I'm not going to act like English speakers are the ONLY people who want to read your comics, and the time you have available is a big consideration too.

I doubt I'll have much more to say, so thanks for the civil conversation and your responses.

Speaking as one of the Germans who love your work, I'd like to add my opinion: I agree that American slang isn't important and it can even seem weird if the characters are clearly Japanese, but talk like they are from New York. Your German, French and Swedish readers probably won't care when a character uses an unusual phrase as long as it makes perfect sense.

However, some mistakes are much bigger than that. For example the title of this story here is missing the Subject of the sentence. I don't know any European language that would just leave out a first person pronoun like that. I know that this is often done in Japanese, which may be why someone from Japan doesn't find it odd, but your German readers will notice.

Another example would be the line from TS Magical Girl Hiromi where a character says "hiar" instead of "hear". Mistakes like this can actually be more confusing for people who are not native English readers, because they don't know if this is some unknown English word they've never heard before.

I'll try to give a comparison in Japanese: Imagine someone wants to say "行きます" and instead writes it as "以きます". Sure, the reading of the Kanji is the same, and you can guess what the person wanted to say. But the moment you come across it, it will probably ruin the flow of the story. If the reader has to stop and think about what the sentence is supposed to be, then that's a big problem. And if this is what the reader sees on one of the first pages of the story, they will be more crtitical of the rest of the translation.
