It's hard to believe.

After all those daring stunts, all those close encounters, the times she performed an illusion where it looked that she died, and of course all those bad endings, it's hard to believe that Carey and her mom finally failed, they got killed, their heads became a trophy in Natsume's wall and their corpses were butchered.

(If anything, I tough that the "Retributions" alternate ending, where Natsume kept her as a slave, was more in character fornher enemies. But ArtDude is a cool artist, anyway)

Please note the story said "A possible future..." I get the feeling this was a one shot to play with a "what if..." excuse to slaughter Carey and a whole bunch of others without actually killing them quite yet. If Carey's gonna die, it's probably not going to be some cheap 'lucky' break by a bad guy. It'll probably be her finding her 'limits' in her profession. On a separate note, I hope Artdude moves away from the whole tortured/gruesome face thing. It's really distracting during the death scenes when the woman looks like she's had her skin stretched over her entire skull. I mean I get he's trying to go for a more 'realistic' look; but the point of this is to be fantasy. It's fine if they need to be 'expressive' but the faces honestly just look horrible right now.

Lo bueno fueron las muertes y la idea de una historia alternativa, lo malo es que es una historia alternativa algo así como WHAT If, que no aporta nada a la historia actual y acá se nota que querían alejarse del grupo original matando a la mayoría, incluso a la prota y nadie quiere a Claire ni si quiera su muerte a nadie le importo, me gusto mas su participación en el comic 48 y a diana la hicieron muy perra jajajajaa y Kate la mejor madre adoptiva hasta en su versión vieja se ve sexy, aun así estuvo increíble buen trabajo Artdude.

I'd love it if artdude41 permanently killed off Carey and transitioned to "Cassie Carter, Queen of Escape", both because of how that would shake things up, and because it would add drama to future peril, because you'd know that the protagonist had been killed off before and (the new one) could be killed off again at any moment. If that ever happens, however, an entire story needs to be dedicated to Carey's demise, milking it for all it's worth, and making it the most twisted, humiliating, perverted, disrespectful thing ever. It should be like the best of the alternate endings, only with the added impact of it being canon. That would be truly amazing. Carey's death in this comic, on the other hand, would be a somewhat disappointing end to the legend if it were truly the end.

Thanks for posting this, Five555. This was definitely a very nice change of pace. I do think that, even in this context, Carey's death should've been a bigger focus, but I'm very much looking forward to the alt endings, which will, perhaps, give me more of what I want. There's maybe a bit too much of a wrinkly older woman thing going on for my taste, but it's not a big deal, and it's justified by the story. I'd just find it hotter if he backed off about halfway, still giving ample indications of age while preserving a more idealized picture of beauty. But then I suspect he may just be more into the look of older women than I am, and he may just be bored by the same stereotypical depiction of attractiveness at this point. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this one though, assuming the alt endings are good anyway.

Wow wasn't expecting that, Carey actually met her end and in the stomach of her deadliest enemies, it couldn't get more perfect for me, other than wishing the scene was a bit longer. Also I actually like how random and unpredictable it is, I think if it was this overly dramatic thing with her upcoming death being telegraphed as fuck, it wouldn't have the same effect. On a different note, I know that Cassie is supposed to be her daughter, but goddamn she's practically a carbon copy of the same character model, wish she looked a bit more distinct, to really drive home that this is a new cycle, hopefully. Tho the "to be concluded" at the end makes me consider if the next issue is perhaps the end of these series, period, which would make me sad. If anyone has any insight on how he's planning to proceed I would appreciate it.

@shadowflame247, that would be pretty ridiculous imo, imagine building up Cassie as the new protag, tying up all the loose ends in regards to all of the side characters, building that future world and introducing us to it, just for it all to be a glorified alternative ending, to be followed up with the same old, same old. That would be a massive waste, since this passing of the torch was pretty decently written and is a good segway for a new beginning, the fact that Cassie literally just looks like Carey is imo enough of a compromise, which makes me think that Artdude is not quite ready to entirely let go of the character and this is the compromise he chose in order to move on, otherwise why even bother making her so alike Carey if this is just a one off? Makes no sense to me, but hey, who knows..

With all the time between installments it's kinda hard to keep track of all the characters, I think I need a comprehesive writeup of the family trees, and relationships.

If I understand it correctly the fight at the end is between half siblings, because they have the same father?

To be honest, if Carey was in serious danger I though it would be from a derivative of The Skorpion from Carey'48. She had escaped barbaques before, so I though that this last BBQ would be tricked, and once Carey was bound it would sprung some extra Skorpion-Like restraints. So Carey would be really scared watching as this time, there were really no escape for her.
Having her fall to her fear, and in her last moment surrender to the inescapable restraint would be the complete end for Carey and everything she means.

But this one looks too much as "just an accident"
And even if most fans like to see her fumbling in her escapes, as long as Carey had a little fight on her, it didn't look like it was the end for her. So that's why I liked the idea of "crushing fear and the realization of being helpless" as the end of Carey, and the Alt-End of Carey 47 more fitting: She couldn't fight any more, and thus she was completly done for!


@andreas666 the AltEnding is where Carey and her mom manage to escape the barbaque.
