You know why nobody had translated this?

Because there was a point at which Flieger quit making new stuff after they freaked out about finding out that their stuff was being uploaded to the internet. They eventually came back, but they've been through some shit and they seem pretty unstable. Not translating their stuff and potentially causing them more mental grief and/or driving them away from the scene again seemed like reasonable person thing to do. Most artists seem to not care that much or at most be mildly miffed, this one will potentially lose their shit.

I know the internet is full of edgy bois that just don't give a fuck, but sometimes you have to be able to recognise when it stops being a game.

Now, I've done more than my fair share of scanning, uploading and translating over the years so I'm hardly against the idea. But if someone is doing work that I actually think is pretty exceptional and they can't mentally deal with the idea of their stuff being uploaded and translated on the internet I'm happy enough to go work on something else. We do what we have to when English versions of stuff aren't available, but we can also choose to just avoid messing with people who clearly take it very, very personally.

Other people may disagree, but I think that doing this is even more of a kick in the dick to the artist than shitty MTLs already are. Not only do you not care about presenting an accurate rendition of the artist's story and doing your best to make sure that the editing/typesetting is not detracting from the work, you chose to do it to an artist with a history of quitting over this sort of stuff.

P.S. Shitty translations do not make people do good translations. If you want to contribute, learn to edit or go to a Japanese class. It doesn't take much Japanese knowledge to be able to have a reasonable go at a real translation with all the tools that are available these days. But it needs some, and it needs someone who at least gives enough of a fuck to realise that "77 Juicy 9!" is probably not a correct translation...
