Thats amatorial work for you! You dont need to pay attention only to the art, but the story has a big deal too, you know?

The art for this thing is just horrible! If I wanted to have something primarily for the story, I would read some novel. This is supposed to be a graphical medium, and thusly should not look like shit.

The artwork is just fine for what it is. With all the criticisms, it seems that people expect all doujinshi to be final finished works. Many doujinshi are released as playful takes of a certain theme or humourous idea and I think that we should be glad to see them.
The artwork drawing style in this first chapter (images 02 to 39) is consistent and the faces are evocative. There is a lack of landscape and room prop drawing, but that is not a problem in this type of character portrayal doujin. I find it refreshing to see Lucy drawn without those huge eyes and in a more natural style.
