I think that wasn't her period at the end, but rather a flashback of post-fucking blood running down her legs. The next panel is her denying that her nausea was from being pregnant (from that fucking), and rather was from seasickness (thus partially denying what happened). The final part with the acknowledgment that she was becoming a woman stemmed from the fact she was going to be popping out a brat shortly regardless.
