I agree that he could've been clearer on the genital area. I believe they first do it in the cloaca, and later in the anus.

Since there appears to be some confusion about bird anatomy:

In short, birds (like reptiles) do not have separate orifices for excretion and reproduction. There is a single opening, the cloaca, which our protagonist decided was close enough. The translation uses the word "anus" which is technically incorrect, so it's not surprising some people got confused.

The drawing style for this is pretty different from most manga... Usually the lines are alot thinner and smooth. Not that i'm complaining, you can really see all the individual pen and inking jobs here. It's comforting.
