To generalize a ton, most deaf people I've met are actually extremely blunt about things. Dancing around and playing for misunderstandings is a big no no.
Seen one gal even sign across a room at a guy IN CHURCH, WITH OTHER DEAF PEOPLE, that she wanted to fuck him later. No one took it as strange at all, as always with those things.
So this here is very realistic to me.
I hope the manga is just as good in that aspect, but Japanese misunderstandings are far too common to expect that.

Edit: Sadly not quite. She's too focused on being a burden to others.
The whole story plays as a message that people should be more straightforward, but doesn't portray the glorious deaf honesty I'm used to.
Good drama though. Bullying, suicide, adapting to disability, responsibility, anxiety, and family ties. I love it.
Patiently awaiting blurays for the movie.

Funny story and easily told with little dialogue. The artist did well in conveying non verbal efforts. The two translations foe this are very similar but I feel that this one had a bit more flair and was more comfortable for an American English reader.
