Queen Chrysalis is not a villain. The people who are villainous are the ponies of all forms for their hypocrisy for the Changelings simply trying to survive and thrive, something that if THEY also had to live off emotion would do exactly what the Changelings do.
The whole "You send them back to us without killing them, but they die of starvation anyway!" was very poignant and I was rooting for Chrysalis to put the smackdown on them, even temporarily.

that part about creatures that feed on negative emotions reminded me of the "death gate cycle": a series of 7 novels by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. in those stories there is a very evil race of shape-shifters that feed on fear. the heroes call them "Serpents" because their true form looks like a giant snake with glowing eyes! one of the craziest parts of the story is when they tell the hero all about their evil plans, just to frighten him, and he just sits there and stares at the ceiling, afraid that anything he does will make the situation worse!
