I don't understand yandere fetishists. It seems like the idea is to have a drop-dead (pun intended) gorgeous girl completely obsessed with you... so you can turn her down? That is the part I will never understand. Why? Why turn down the sexy lady that wants nothing more than to worship the ground upon which you walk as though you were her lord and savior? Because they can be prone to violent bouts of jealousy? That is easy to avoid, just don't be the naive pansy that is the stereotypical anime protagonist! As long as they return her affections anyone with a spine should be able to keep her on a short leash (either metaphorically or literally, I'll let you choose).

@ LIquid Shadow: Because a yandere takes it too far. A yandere doesn't want to worship you, she wants you to herself. She wants to slaughter your family so you don't go to your dad's birthday, because she wants the day with you and you alone. She wants to burn down your office so you can't go to work so she doesn't have to be apart from you. It's a level of dependency that rivals having a heroin addiction mixed with being entirely psychotic. Now, if you're shallow and don't give a damn about looks, you could psychologically manipulate a yandere to your advantage, but most people like DrDoktor know that having someone stalking you and attacking the people in your life that aren't her is not fun, not funny, and very sick. Edit: And this isn't "Don't be a pussy" because a yandere might go so far as to HARM YOU in order to keep you to herself. You'll go to bed one night thinking you're a big tough guy, and wake up to find out she dosed you with some morphine, cut off your leg, and took you to a cabin in the woods so you two can be alone forever. A yandere isn't stable, and can often go so far as to be suicidal (better for you and her to be dead together than her be without you) and what you have to realize about someone with a personality this far gone is that it's NOT a "bout of murderous jealousy" it's her inventing ways you'll leave her and acting on that without your knowledge. It's seeing you watch Charlie's Angels and thinking you'll try and leave her for an actress you've never met and deciding to lock the doors and burn the house down. This isn't about keeping someone on a short leash because they get out of hand, it's someone that lacks complete empathy for those around her and cares only for her own selfish ideals. She doesn't CARE about you, she wants to OWN you, and you can't be on top without her thinking you'll leave.

Alright, fair enough. From what I've seen yandere is portrayed the ways I've described, but I'll admit I didn't look too far into the concept. Even with this new information, I stand by the idea of NOT immediately turning her down, if for no other reason than personal safety. If a yandere is a ticking time-bomb waiting to go off, I see no need to speed up the process. A touch of tact and enough constitution to not act like a deer caught in the headlights could be the difference between life and death in such a situation. If nothing else, it could buy some time to think of a solution.
