it's somewhat justified in this story's case though. from the looks of it, they're from the boonies, or at least a small town in the outskirts; for people there, securing an offspring to continue their family line and/or inherit their business/farm is something seen as a priority. if there's nobody to continue, no one else will. plus they got the time and the cost is lower since the living standard is modest

unlike city folks who're too busy with 8am to 5pm company-employed work (not including overtimes), skyrocketing bills and other expenditures, not to mention limited living space and a plethora of personal wants for some (fashionable clothes, electronics, accessories, anime goods etc), having even one child is both of a luxury and burden. too many things to consider and it will eat back at you if you're unprepared when conceiving one. it also concerns the child's welfare later on. it's an issue hot on debate in my country, really.
