Given all of the circumstances of why they broke apart, this IS most likely what would happen in the end.

Many of the fans like to think of Toriel ending up with Sans, but they're looking at it from the idealistic, short-term, instant-gratification point of view. (Which is honestly very common these days).

But when/how Toriel and Asgore eventually get this time together, and start having this talk (That they both probably needed to have really) like in the comic here, this is the genuinely the most probable conclusion of it. And everybody probably knows that.

Yeah basically. I mean the worst thing is Asgore and Toriel splitting because frankly Asgore did nothing wrong. Toriel x Sans people are batshit crazy and are homestuck-tier sorts of shit.
