I think people is misunderstanding something. Its not that he ignored her because he didnt like her, its implied (when he says that he just wanted to be there to read her works or when he thinks about if it was him who was fucking her) that he ignored her because he wasnt brave enough to take the last step. Basically, she was too aggressive for an herbivore like him, so he always ended up running away from her advances.
